The Media Portrayl of Czech attendance at International Exhibition in Montreal 1967 in contemporary press

Master diploma thesis "The Media Portrayal of Czechoslovak attendance at International Exhibition in Montreal 1967 in contemporary press" intends to show media picture of Czechoslovak attendance at Expo 1967, through the use of analysis of selected daily press and social and cultural journals. It sets Czechoslovak attendance into political, cultural, ideological and media context and outline history and development of International Exhibition. Thesis also introduces Montreal exhibition and present information about attendance of Czechoslovakia. On this foundations arise the second part of the thesis, which propounds the media picture of this event in selected contemporary press and using analysis of self-mindedness that refers to rate of statement of facts and objectivity. Selected press and journals were monitored for a period of eight months and by researching there was considered form o reporting, ideological affection and general focus of selected press about this event. Important considered elements were also influence of freeing atmosphere of second half of sixties and fact, that exhibition took place in capitalistic state. Outcome of all these circumstances is media picture of this event, which is shown in conclusion of thesis.
Silver legacy of EURO 1996 during the following European Football Championships

The bachelor's thesis "Silver legacy of EURO 1996 during the following European Football Championships" deals with informing how selected Czech dailies reported on the 1996 European Football Championship during the following five European football championships. In selected tournaments, the text follows the frequency, and which iconic moments and personalities were most referred to in connection with the 1996 European Championship. The work is divided into three parts. The theoretical first describes the relationship between sport and the media, which is important for the correct understand of the bachelor's thesis. Further, the introductory part deals with aspects of how sports success is displayed, which is in fact the subject of research in the bachelor's thesis. In the next phase, he describes the history of European football championships. This context is also suitable for understanding a successful sporting event in a broader context. The second part of the thesis describes the definition of research and the methods used, then the introduction of the researched periodicals and the coding book itself with selected analytical variables. 10th anniversary of establishment of the first republic and its presentation in the contemporary press

The bachelor thesis deals with the jubilee tenth anniversary of the founding of the Czechoslovak Republic and the importance of this event for conteporary press and society. The thesis analyzes four both party and independent newspapers (Lidové noviny, Národní politika, Venkov and Právo lidu) and compares what were their thoughts about the first decade of the republic and how important were the jubilee celebrations for them. The work consists of two parts. The first one contains a description of political development of the first decade of republic and for a better understanding of the historical context it also recalls the most important milestones of formation and functioning of Czechoslovakia. In addition, the work also tries to outline the media situation during the First Republic. In the second part, thesis describes concrete newspapers and analyzes articles and mentions of the jubilee celebrations in the period from 20 October to 4 November 1928. At the end of the thesis there is a comparison of the obtained results, which compares the importance of the celebrations for individual editors, and whether the opinions of the newspapers differed.
Successful football chamionships for the Czechoslovak and Czech teams and their reflection in the contemporary press

The bachelor thesis "Succesful football championships for the Czechoslovak and Czech teams and their reflection in the contemporary press" deals with the reporting on the major international football tournaments such as World Cups and European Championships, where the Czechoslovak or later Czech national teams suceeded. The first part focuses on the phenomenon of mediated sport and the descriptions of selected tournaments, the second part deals with the chosen journals and the methods of the thesis itself. The last part explicates which topics are the most common in newspapers during the reporting period (one week before until one week after the tournament) and the changes in post-match reporting focusing on Czechoslovak and Czech games.
Czechoslovakia in the years 1948-1989: How did the ruling party use the language of the formation of the "favorable" reality?

Submitted thesis deals with the question of how was the ruling party was using the language of "favorable" view of reality on the example of the introduction of monetary reform and the cancellation of the ticket system in the year1953. Using the critical discourse analysis of James Paul Gee it examines the twelve selected articles in the journals Rudé právo and Pravda in the period of one week before and two weeks after the introduction of monetary reform. The aim of this Bachelor thesis is to capture how did the Communist Party try to manipulate and influence the attitude of the citizens of Czechoslovakia to monetary reform through the media. The main contribution of this thesis should be a preview of functioning of the media in totalitarian Czechoslovakia and a display of the Communist regime's efforts to influence the media construct reality.
Sochi 2014 olympies in the czech contemporary press

The topic of this thesis is the reflection of XXII Olympic Winter Games in the Czech contemporary press. The aim is to find out in what way the selected press reported about it, more precisely to what extent it informed about the problematic and controversial aspects of its preparation in the period before and during the games. The analyzed period was set to be September 2013 - March 2014 and the chosen daily press includes Mladá fronta DNES and Lidové noviny as representants of rather right wing press, and Právo as a representant closer to the left side of the political spectrum. Weekly press in the analysis includes Týden and Respekt. The thesis is divided into two parts. Genocide in Rwanda in 1994 in the czech contemporary press

The topic of this thesis is Genocide in Rwanda which occurred in 1994 and its reflection in Czech press during that time. The aim is to find out in what way the chosen press reported about the genocide itself, the violence in 1994 that preceded it and events that ensued. The findings are compared mutually. Specifically, it's about Mladá fronta Dnes and Lidové noviny that were chosen to represent right sided press. Rudé právo, a newspaper closer to left side of political spectrum, and weekly prints named Respekt and Reflex all representing non-daily print. The thesis is ment as a probe closely investigating Czech media and painting general picture of how the media reported about the conflict in Rwanda. The thesis is divided into two parts, the theoretical and investigative part, the former describing the general characteristics of the country and the historical causes of the tension between the two ethnic groups, events that preceded the genocide and last but not least the course of events that unfolded afterwards during the same year while the latter analyzes the selected Czech prints.

This Master Thesis is called Media Image of the Bay of Pigs Invasion of Cuba in the Czechoslovakia Contemporary Press. Its aim is to show overall picture of how was the Invasion characterized by four contemporary daily newspapers - Rudé právo, Lidová demokracie, Mladá fronta a Obrana lidu. The first part of this thesis describes the historical background of the Bay of Pigs Invasion and the Invasion itself, relationship between Cuba and Czechoslovakia, what was the media situation, censorship, propaganda and short introduction of the newspapers. Next part analyses the contemporary newspaper articles, which puts together media image of the Invasion. During the Cold War, the Invasion of the Bay of Pigs was the first serious conflict between Cuba and the USA.
Monetary reform in 1953 in Czechoslovakia and the differences in its image in literature and period press

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of censorship and propaganda on articles concerning the Monetary reform in 1953 in Czechoslovakia in period press. The goal of this study is to compare different images of the Monetary reform provided by non-fiction literature and period press. This study also offers familiarization with three contemporary journals. Articles from these journals are used as the particular examples of the knowledge gained from the literature. The empirical part of this study is based on the media content analysis. Data for this research were collected from the journals. The results provide some support for comparing the images and understanding censorship and propaganda. This study illustrates behaviour of media as the instrument of manipulation in socialistic Czechoslovakia.
